Transmission Gearbox Consist of Few Important Parts:

a) Overhaul Kit

It is the part of the transmission that controls gear shifts. It contains the spring and valves/solenoids that control the trans. operation. It has passages that the transmission fluid flows thru to apply pressure to the clutch packs.

b) Valve Body

The valve body is the control center or brain of the automatic transmission. It contains a maze of channels and passages that direct hydraulic fluid to the various valves which then activate the appropriate clutch pack or band servo to smoothly shift to the appropriate gear for each driving situation. Each of the many valves in the valve body has a specific purpose and is named for that function.

The most important valve is questionable, since every valve is vitally important. The one that gives you direct control over the transmission is the manual valve. The manual valve is directly connected to the gear shift handle and covers and uncovers various passages depending on what position the gear shift is placed in. When you place the gear shift in Drive, for instance, the manual valve directs fluid to the clutch pack(s) that activates 1st gear. it also sets up to monitor vehicle speed and throttle position so that it can determine the optimal time and the force for the 1 – 2 shift.

The other valve, should your valve body have it is the T.V. valve, and the governor. These components apply to non computerized transmissions such as the T-700R4 Chevrolet transmission and many other transmissions.

On computer controlled transmissions, you will also have electrical solenoids that are mounted in the valve body to direct fluid to the appropriate clutch packs or bands under computer control to more precisely control shift points. and, a manual lever position switch too.

Simply put, the valve body makes all of the shifting decisions for your transmission. Different inputs from various switches and sensors provide the valve body with the necessary information for the transmission to do it’s job properly.

c) Torque Converter

In modern usage, a torque converter is generally a type of fluid coupling (but also being able to multiply torque) that is used to transfer rotating power from a prime mover, such as an internal combustion engine or electric motor, to a rotating driven load. The torque converter normally takes the place of a mechanical clutch in a vehicle with an automatic transmission, allowing the load to be separated from the power source. It is usually located between the engine’s flexplate and the transmission.

d) Oil Cooler

The temperature indicator is indicating that your car temperature is very high, you are stuck in a traffic jam under the hot sun and there is no place to cool down your car. Suddenly you car just stopped working. Sounds faniliar? Car overheating is not uncommon and if you are one the unlucky ones, you would understand how troublesome and frustrating it can be for your car to breakdown due to overheating. Why leave it to chance? We offer high quality oil cooler so that you won’t have to worry about car overheating.

Gearbox Problems Symptom

The transmission(gearbox) system is usually ignored until there is a major problem. Many people who noticed their car is not running properly ignore the problem with the hope that the symptoms will work themselves out. This could result in more extensive damage to your vehicle as the problem becomes more severe. The following symptoms may indicate a problem with your transmission.

  •          Failing or delaying when shifting gears.
  •          Red, pink or brown puddles under your car.
  •          The need to add transmission fluid.
  •          Unusual noises, such as a whining sound when you step on the accelerator, a grinding noise, or a banging noise when you come to a stop.
  •          Your car fails to move when cold, but improves once it is warmed up.
  •          Engine overheating.
  •      Car is unable to move forward or backward – RPM increasing but no movement of car.
  •      The car jerks when changing gear from N to D or N to R.
  •      The car jerking while driving when shifting gear. Engine cut off – vibration occurs, engine off while gear shift from N to D or N to R.
  •      Car is unable to shift gear 3, car feel heavy when start or climbing a hill. Gear failed to shift.
  •      Noisy Sounds – noise occurs while car is in operation.
  •      Slipping of Gear – when gear is shift, RPM increase excessively without increase of speed.

If you suspect there is a problem with your car, have it checked out before more damage is done. Call Win Tech Auto and one of our highly skilled, customer friendly, courteous technicians will be most happy to offer you an honest quote on all your transmission repair needs.

How can my gear box stand longer?

  • Install Transmission Oil Cooler
  • Every 20°drop in operating temperature can double oil and equipment life.
  • Enable gear box to stay longer and durable

Use a transcooler if you:

  • Tow boats, trailers or fifth wheels
  • Drive in stop-and-go traffic
  • Climb steep grades
  • Drive in hot weather
